Our Community

We are a community of 22 monks in final vows, together with others at different stages of formation. We take vows that involve sharing our possessions, living together without marrying and accepting the guidance of the community.

We gather together in the Abbey Church six times a day to pray the Office and celebrate Mass. There are also times set aside for personal meditation and silent reading (known as lectio divina). All together, a monk spends about four hours a day in prayerful activity. This is our main work, which we call ‘the Work of God’.

Within this context of community life and prayer, we undertake a wide variety of work that includes the Benedictine tradition of education and hospitality, as well as newer responses to the changing needs of church and society.
