Worth Abbey is a Benedictine monastery, a sanctuary where the Gospel of Christ is expressed through a community life of prayer and service. At the heart of Worth is a community of Catholic monks who follow the life-giving guidance of the Rule of St. Benedict.

In every generation, monks and nuns bring together the realities of their day and the wisdom of the Rule in a new fusion. This fusion is the energy that enables monasteries to be places of sanctuary today as in the past an energy that is powerfully present in the life of Worth Abbey.

In his Encyclical Vita Consecrata  Pope St John Paul II wrote in 1996:

“ at the heart of the church and the world, monasteries continue to be eloquent signs of communion, welcoming places for those seeking God, schools of faith, places of dialogue and culture, building up the church and the earthly city in expectation of the heavenly city.”
